On September 15, 2009 Oxfam America released a briefing paper entitled “The New Adaptation Marketplace: Climate change and opportunities for green economic growth”.

Drip irrigation is the most efficient method of irrigating. While sprinkler systems are about 75-85% efficient, drip systems are typically rated at above 90% efficient. This is largely due to the fact that with drip irrigation water soaks into the soil before it can evaporate or run off.  Also, through efficient drip emitters, water is placed exactly where it is needed, at the root zone of the plants, rather than being sprayed everywhere else.

Drip irrigation is versatile. With an automatic timer there is no need to remind yourself when to water (or remember to turn it off).  You can also be fertilizing your plants as they’re watered, simply by attaching a fertilizer injector to the system (see "FERTILIZER INJECTOR" product page).  An additional, and significant, benefit of watering by drip is the reduction of diseases associated with high levels of moisture on plant leaves.

One system can cover all, with the ability to vary the amount of water going to each plant.
